Dr. Serkan Ürkmez is the Director of Management Systems at Borçelik, a joint venture between Borusan Holding and ArcelorMittal specializing in the production of cold-rolled and galvanized steel in Türkiye. He also acts as the Sustainability Leader of the company.
With more than 24 years of professional experience at Borçelik, he has held several managerial and leadership positions, including Supply Chain Director, Innovation and Business Development Manager, and Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in operational excellence, supply chain management, innovation, sustainability, and organizational transformation.
He holds a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from Boğaziçi University and an M.Sc. in Engineering Business Management from the University of Warwick. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Özyeğin University. His academic interests include sustainability-driven decision-making, operations research, optimization, carbon border adjustment mechanisms, and sustainable supply chains.
In addition to his corporate and academic activities, he is actively involved in several non-governmental organizations and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Bursa Branch of the Turkish Quality Association (KalDer).
He is married and has two sons.
